The IT Service Desk provides assistance with problems related to the computer rooms, workstations for students, VPN, remote desktop, licenses, and other digital services offered by the Department of Communication.
Students of Communiatons and Politics can contact the IT Helpdesk at helpdesk@ifkw.lmu.de or in room B U105 during the opening hours, which can be viewed online (Google Calendar).
You can log in to the CIP computers using your LRZ ID (7-digit code) or your campus email address and campus password.
Login is available for members of the social sciences faculty. If you are studying at another faculty, please inquire there about workstations.
If computers, projectors, or other technology in the above-mentioned CIP rooms are not working, please write to helpdesk@ifkw.lmu.de. In urgent cases, you will find a telephone in the room: 9408 (help desk) or 9440 (IT management).
Students of communication science/journalism can borrow audio recording devices from the help desk to use in seminars, projects, or final theses.
Please bring your student ID card and official photo ID with you.
The loan period is two weeks, with the possibility of extension. When borrowing equipment, please check that it is complete using the enclosed list, especially for ZOOM devices.
The following items are available for loan:
Temporary licenses for F4 Transcript, F4 Analysis, and MaxQDA can be obtained through the IfKW.
F4 licenses are limited to 31 days. To apply for such a license, please provide us with the following information: thesis supervisor, name, student ID number, and purpose of the license (thesis or name of the seminar).
The website s2player can also be used for sporadic transcription.
NoScribe is a software program for AI-supported automatic transcription. You can use the software by appointment in the CIP room at Akademiestraße 7 or install it locally on your own computer (download). However, transcription will be slow if your computer does not have an AI-compatible graphics card.
MaxQDA: You can use MaxQDA at any time via Remote Desktop.
For courses with a focus on methodology, seminar leaders can apply for a free course license.
If you need a temporary local license for a thesis, please send us an email with your name, student ID number, the name of your supervisor, and the reason why a local license is more appropriate than using Remote Desktop.
You will receive a TAN from us, which can be exchanged for a license code at https://www.maxqda.de/maxqda-lizenz-lmu together with your campus email address.
OpenQDA: The OpenQDA software can be used free of charge via the OpenQDA website (please note the privacy policy!) or as software for download.
No other software licenses can be obtained through IfKW. The LRZ offers information on discounted hardware and software purchases at http://www.lrz.de/info/studenten/.
